Galerie Kroupa

Miroslav KROUPA, born in 1974 is the owner and founder of the gallery. Between 1997 and 2004 he worked as the head assistant of Mr. Claude Robert, one of the leading Parisian auctioneers and traders of modern art and also the co-owner of MILLON & ASSOCIÉS auction house, which, in terms of turnover , was the third biggest auction house in France at that time. Between 1999 and 2002 Miroslav Kroupa attended art history courses at Sorbonne, studying also privately with Mr. Claude Robert. In 2002 he successfully graduated at the Academy of the Art Dealers Association in Prague.

In June 2004 he launched his own trade business in the Czech Republic. In the following year he opened Galerie Art Nouveau in his native town of Litomyšl, followed by Galerie Kroupa that opened in September 2007 with its headquarters on Smetanovo náměstí sq. No 60 in the beautiful premises of a newly reconstructed historic house.

The gallery specialises mainly in first-rate Czech and European art of the 19th and 20th century. The offer also includes the works of French artists from the worldwide famous Barbizon and Parisian schools. The gallery sells works by leading Czech painters of the 19th century (Aleš, Brožík, Chittussi, Mánes, Marold, Mařák, Navrátil, Piepenhagen, Stephan, Ullik...), landscapists from the Mařák school and their contemporaries (Březina, Bubeníček, Dvořák, Honsa, Hudeček, Kalvoda, Kaván, Langer, Lebeda, Lolek, Macoun, Satra, Slavíček, Špillar, Ullmann and others), as well as avant-garde works of the best Czech painters from the first half of the 20th century (Filla, Foltýn, Muzika, Procházka, Šíma, Štýrský, Toyen, Zrzavý etc.), including Group 42 (Gross, F. Hudeček, Lhoták, J. Kotík, Matal, Smetana, Souček). The important names of the Czech art scene of the second half of the 20th century are represented too (Boštík, Hejna, Istler, Jíra, Jiřincová, Komárek, Kopecký, Malich, Medek, Sýkora and others) along with some of the founders of Slovak modern art (Alexy, Bazovský, Benka, Fulla, Galanda, Guderna, Hála, Jasusch, Majerník, Mallý, Martinčeková-Šimerová, Mudroch, Schiller, Szobel, Weiner-Kráľ and other authors).

The aim of the gallery is to work towards the general acceptance of artistic values of Czech painting on an international level and to trade quality and proven artworks by renowned authors, both in the Czech and European art contexts, as well as, with the help of leading domestic and foreign experts and professionals, to provide full guarantee of the authenticity and originality of the offered artworks.
